Art forgery is as old as time itself. On the surface, it would seem most fakers and forgers are in the game for the financial rewards it promises to bring, but if one scratches the surface, far deeper motivations lurk beneath the veneer of those who practice the art of deception in the hallowed halls of the art world. “Not just dollars” delves into the history and workings of this dubious but highly fascinating “profession”.
Lara Nicholls is the Assistant Curator of Australian Painting and Sculpture at the National Gallery of Australia. Prior to this, she was Senior Art Specialist at auction houses Sotheby’s Australia and Deutscher & Hackett. She has a Master of Arts (art history), specialising in French 19th century and aristocratic taste, from the University of Melbourne where she was also curator of the Trinity College Art Collection and Fine Arts tutor at that same institution.
Dinner will follow the lecture in the Ox Eatery restaurant. To RSVP for the dinner please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
