Skeptics sponsor school science

The Australian Skeptics are proud to be long term sponsors of many science and critical reasoning prizes and competitions for children around the country.

We financially support Victoria’s Science Drama Awards and the Science Talent Search again this year. Both of these events are organised by the Science Teachers Association of Victoria and continue through the vision and dedication of many enthusiastic volunteers.

Science Drama Awards is in its 23rd consecutive year and encourages school students of all ages to blend their scientific and dramatic knowledge into a short scientifically literate performance. Often the nerds and the glee club hang out at other ends of the playground, but this esteemed institution is responsible for melding their talents. After a rigorous selection process the eight best performances in Victoria will battle it out in an inter-school spectacular in September.

The 64th annual Science Talent Search will focus on the Science of Light and will encourage science students state-wide to develop their independent self-motivated science projects in a wide range of forms. Thousands of students will be submitting their creative writing, research, models, inventions, games, photographs, posters and video projects for consideration by a panel of very dedicated judges. We are proud to be giving bursaries to some of the winning students in recognition of their scientific talent.

In NSW, we support the Young Scientist Awards run by the Science Teachers Association of NSW. The Awards promote an interest in the study of science among primary and secondary school students.

Students can perform an open-ended scientific investigation about a topic that is of interest to them or they can enter the new Models and Inventions category. Entries can be from individuals or groups.

The Australian Skeptics are very pleased to be supporting tomorrow’s science communicators, critical thinkers and scientists.

Organisers from the Science Drama Awards and Science Talent Search will be giving a public talk for the Victorian Skeptics Cafe on June 15th.
