The 2007 National Convention is over and was successful beyond everyone's hopes and expectations, with more people attending that the organisers thought would fit into the venue. Hobart doesn't have the population (or accessibility) of Sydney or Melbourne so getting a turnout that would look very good in those cities is a major credit to Fred Thornett and his team. Reports of the papers, presentations and gossip will appear here and in the Skeptic shortly, but here are the three awards presented at the convention dinner:- The 2007 Australian Skeptics' Prize for Critical Thinking went to WA English teacher Kylie Sturgess. (Runner-up in 2006)
- The 2007 Skeptic of the Year is Loretta Marron of Healthinformation.com.au.
- The Bent Spoon Award for 2007 was given to Marena Manzoufas, Head of Programming at the ABC, for authorising the dreadful Psychic Investigators television show, a crime made worse by showing the dreck in the time slot usually occupied by Catalyst.
