The 2019 Brisbane SkeptiCamp will be held on June 9 at the Sideshow arts centre in West End.
The “(sort of) annual” event is a joint effort between Brisbane Skeptics Society, Gold Coast Skeptics, and Queensland Skeptics.
SkeptiCamp is an ‘un-conference’. Less formal than a normal Skeptics convention, anyone with a passion and understanding of a topic is welcome to speak, especially those who wouldn’t normally get a chance at a national convention.
Pretty much any topic is welcome, from traditional skeptical topics like ghost hunting, UFOs and cryptozoology, to newer subjects like chemtrails and 5G safety, and talks on general science as well. Talks are only short, normally running for about 10 minutes with five minutes for questions.
Musical entertainment has also been organised with Brisbane’s sultan of science, Conspiracy of One.
Tickets are free, but please register beforehand as it helps the organisers with planning the event.
Those wishing to speak should email the organisers at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject heading “Skepticamp Speaker”, your name, topic of your proposed talk, and time of day you prefer to speak: morning, early or later afternoon, or “whenever”. But hurry, as spots are filling fast (if not already filled).
Overall, there will be four sessions, two either side of lunch. The event runs from 10am to 5pm.
Sideshow is located at 349 Montague Road, West End 4101.
