Major German study in accord with The Great Australian Psychic Prediction Project
The GWUP (Gesellschaft zur wissenschaftlichen Untersuchung von Parawissenschaften – Society for the Scientific Investigation of Pseudosciences) in Germany evaluated 2099 annual predictions from fifty-two sources. One quarter were too vague to test, more than half were clearly wrong, and solid bullseyes were rare. The project evaluated publicly available annual predictions from fortune tellers, astrologers, self-described mediums, and other esoteric ‘advisors’ and ‘seers’.
This is in line with the findings in 2021 of Australian Skeptics in our ‘Great Australian Psychic Prediction Project‘, in which an international team reviewed 3811 psychic predictions made in Australia. The conclusions of both studies strongly indicate that people claiming psychic powers or the ability to see the future by reading the stars or the teacups cannot live up to their claims.
Some of the more interesting predictions for 2025 from the German study include;
- A donut-shaped cloud that might be a UFO would be seen worldwide
- Aliens fighting in World War III
- There would be a cloned Tyrannosaurus rex
- An angler would catch the Loch Ness Monster
- A King Kong–like giant gorilla will be discovered on a remote island
- Time travel will become reality
- Jesus will return to Earth on the 23rd or 24th of September 2025
“With the predictions fortune tellers offered for 2025, you could keep movie theaters running for years,” says psychologist Timur Sevincer of Leuphana University Lüneburg.
Will this stop TV infomercial shows, tabloid magazines, and radio programs calling in ‘psychics’ to give their mystical insights into 2026? We confidently predict it won’t. We also predict they won’t spend the time and effort needed to review the predictions made on their outlets about 2025.
Australian Skeptics congratulate the GWUP and encourage other groups from around the world to conduct similar studies.
